Extensions & renovations · Charlton Kings, Cheltenham

A lean-to conservatory out, a kitchen extension in — told from footings to bifolds.

A 1930s semi in Charlton Kings: a tired lean-to replaced with a single-storey kitchen extension, roof lantern and bifolds — documented over twelve weeks as part of a monthly Engine.

The Job Story

The job

The back of a 1930s semi in Charlton Kings, with a leaking lean-to conservatory and a cracked patio. Cleeve Build took it down, dug and poured the footings, built up in block, put a steel in over a six-metre opening, and finished with a flat roof, a roof lantern and anthracite bifolds onto a new porcelain patio. Twelve weeks, building control signed off, family cooking in it by the summer.

The problem

Extensions are the biggest spend most homeowners will make on their house, and they take months to decide. Cleeve Build's best advert was always the finished job — but by the time it was finished, nobody had kept a record of how it got there. Twelve weeks of good work, and two photos at the end.

What twelve weeks became

On Engine, the job was captured as it happened rather than remembered afterwards. Photos at each stage, a voice note every Friday, and from that:

  • A case study page telling the build from footings to handover
  • A before, during and after set, with the steel going in as the centrepiece
  • Monthly social posts following the build, so local homeowners watched it go up
  • Google Business posts at each milestone, keeping the profile active through the whole job
  • A review request, timed for the week the family moved back into the kitchen

Steel's in. Six metres of opening where a leaky lean-to used to be. Next week: roof joists. Following this one from footings to bifolds — Charlton Kings, 1930s semi.

The owners wanted two things: a kitchen they could all fit in, and to never see that conservatory again. Twelve weeks later, they got both.

Why it works

Homeowners planning an extension want reassurance more than anything — that the builder turns up, keeps a tidy site and finishes what they start. A build told week by week proves all three before they've picked up the phone.

This is a concept project: the business is made up to show what a Job Story and Engine look like. The thinking, writing and standard are exactly what you'd get.
